COMMUNITY

MHANY isn’t just in the business of bringing buildings to neighborhoods, we also strive to become a part of existing communities by helping to reinforce a sense of trust, safety and belonging. Community is both a feeling and a set of relationships. One of the things that has been a part of the fabric of MHANY since the beginning is our commitment to building communities, not just housing. We do that in many ways, including by connecting our residents to a wide array of resources, most recently around the pandemic, providing financial counseling, and connecting residents to organizing efforts that affect them and their neighbors.

MHANY Management is creating a Reading Heroes program for children to encourage reading and literacy from an early age. Adults, including residents and community partners, will read to children and maintain a reading space in building community areas. learn more

In the fall of 2020, we initiated a new program for our residents - community libraries. Partnering with a local non-profit, Brooklyn Book Bodega, we created a pilot library program in the community room of our building at 1825 Atlantic Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. learn more
