Mortgage Assistance Program (MAP) & Office of Financial Empowerment (OFE) work together to help homeowners save their homes from foreclosure.
Jeanette Colon-Nieves and Andrew Nieves purchased the Queens home where they live with their two daughters in 2000. Ms. Colon-Nieves and Mr. Nieves were able to make timely monthly mortgage payments until 2010 when Mr. Nieves lost his job.
Mr. Nieves started a temporary job in early 2012 and the family received a HAMP modification that brought them current on their mortgage.Unfortunately, Mr. Nieves's temporary employment ended a few months later and he did not start receiving unemployment income again until a few months later. The result was that the Colon-Nieves family was again behind on their mortgage.
But there is hope.....
